2. Prevent Injury

The ABCs - airway, breathing and circulation
Put something coft under the head (careful of airway)
Move things out of the way
Loosen clothing around the neck
If possible, turn the individual on his/her left side.
(This allows secretions to flow out of the mouth)
Check for ID
Do not hold down or place anything in mouth
Diastat or VNS, only if physician ordered

During a tonic-clonic seizure, breathing may be irregular
or stop briefly and skin and lips may take on a bluish cast temporarily
